About xFoundry Xperience
Our 15-month multidisciplinary program is designed for passionate students who want to make positive change.
Xperience takes students through the founder's mindset where they'll build upon skills of resilience, adaptability, and risk tolerance, all while solving grand challenges.
The Inaugural 2025 Xperience Competition
Throughout Xperience, student teams will design their solution and pitch for the grand prize in Spring 2025. The topic for this year’s competition is School Safety, chosen by UMD students.
School safety challenge: Rapid detection and notification of an active threat on a school campus.
There have been 1154 school shootings since 2013. This resulted in 384 deaths and 827 injuries.
Rising Threat: The surge in school shootings
There is an annual average of 51 school shootings, more than double the average between 2008 and 2012. The rate of school shootings have been more than doubled since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Solution goals
>> Software-based active shooter detection and mitigation
>> Ensure accurate notification to key members of command chain and students
>> Make system accessible to all schools, everywhere
